What do I do?
I tend to be a big fan of summertime outdoor activities, like even being
involved in them...
Bicycling
Lately, I've been getting more and more into bicycling. Part of this is an
excuse to spend less time in the car and more time in the sun. Another big
reason for this is that I have gotten into getting more involved in the
community by doing some charitable fund-raiser rides. This year, I'm signed
up to do 50 miles each day for 2 days for the American Lung Association and two days in
the Henniker area at 100 miles a day for the New England MS Society. Feel free to
join, or email me if you want to pledge.
Anyway, I currently am riding some [relatively] cheap Trek bike, but it does
the job. Not too into the gear at the point, I'm more into just making
myself better.
I also plan to join up with the Granite State Wheelmen in the
upcoming month to get some company while I practice..
Hiking
I love to hike mountains, but I never seem to find people who are willing to
go. So I've pretty well neglected this sport, though I hope to get ten or
so hikes in this summer. To the best of my memory, I've hiked Mts. Major,
Monadnock, Isreal, and Liberty. I prefer trails that aren't quite as
crowded as Major or Monadnock, though Major is short enough it doesn't
bother me (probably the best view, too!). Still looking for a good hiking
club in NH, so drop me a line if you've got a recommendation.
Misc Fitness/Weight Loss
When I'm not out doing something "real" I'm pretty much daily found at the
gym. This includes all of the winter (I have zero interest in winter
outdoor activities). I am there either running or lifting or some other
cardio machine a couple hours each day that I work and some days that I have
off. I'm also big into nutrition and do a lot of research about what proper
nutrition consists of. Even though I know a lot about what I should be
eating, I still have a weak spot for high fat/high carb foods. Throughout my
adult life, I've gained (through laziness) and actively lost over 200
cumulative pounds, so like I said, I've done a lot of work in this area. One
of my aims in life is to help other people beat their own weight issues.
Hockey!!
As an UNH alum, I have no choice but to be crazy about the Wildcat hockey
program. I have done crazy things like drive to Michigan (basically
Wisconsin) to see them play. Though my dedication to travelling has died a
lot, I still follow them at every chance I get. Unfortunately, I can't
skate, so I haven't tried my skills at the sport, but that's still high on
my "to try" list.
Speeding tickets
I am an avid collector. I cannot describe what that pretty pink color does
for my psychii. Also I think that the insurance industry needs an economic
boost, and this is my way to assist in funding them.
In reality, I just like to drive, and I own a Mustang GT. The police like
it so much that they use their authority to pull me over and check out the
ride
Environmental Friendliness
I am constantly researching the net trying to find ways to conserve, and
drooling over them wishing that I could overcome their humongous pricetags.
I am, fundamentally, a hippocrite with my fuel inefficient but fun to drive
vehicles. I do try to bicycle to work as often as I can stand to do 60 mile
round trips.
During most of my free time, driving, exercising, etc, I am trying to devise
ways to use less energy to do the same thing. One day, maybe, I'll actually
DO something...
